Ukiyoe

Ukiyoe presented twenty recent works by Madaudo inspired by Japanese ukiyo-e art, in conjunction with Ukiyoe. Il mondo fluttuante at Palazzo Reale in Milan. It is a key exhibition for understanding the artist’s relationship with the East: not a decorative quotation, but a deeper assimilation of visual principles such as flatness, asymmetry, absence of shadows and a composition that is more mental than perspectival. In this phase, Madaudo translates the Japanese lesson into a material and figurative painting practice, preserving his recognizable mark while lightening the spatial construction of the image.
